Founded in Nihonbashi-Bakurocho, Tokyo, in 2023, SOM GALLERY relocated to Jingumae, Shibuya, in 2026. Working across media, the gallery presents a program of artists from Japan and abroad, approaching the ambiguous terrain of a time in which established contexts are increasingly losing their authority from multiple perspectives.

With a particular focus on artists born in the 1990s—the same generation as the gallery’s director—SOM works with practices that share a critical awareness of the questions and conditions shaping the present. Through its exhibitions, the gallery seeks to address the people and society with whom these artists share their time.

Representative artists include Matthew Monahan, Hugh Scott-Douglas, Ryota Watanabe, Asami Shiode, Yurika Shiroyama, Koga Miura, Aldo van den Broek, Johnny Mae Hauser, and Aiku Kurotaki.
