The Hollywood Roosevelt

This exhibition presents works by eight artists whose cultural backgrounds and approaches to making differ significantly. Their diverse practices—spanning painting and sculpture, linear constructions and color fields, as well as various manipulations of surface—do not converge into a single style or unified narrative. Rather, each work unsettles the conditions through which an image emerges and how it is experienced within space, doing so through distinct methods.

The exhibition does not assume a shared visual language or stylistic coherence. When practices formed under different premises are placed within the same space, subtle shifts occur in the perceived density of vision and the sense of scale. Although the works exist in close proximity, they do not easily harmonize. Before being understood as stylistic differences, this situation appears instead as a collision of densities within the space.

Yet this collision is not resolved into a dramatic effect. Instead, the exhibition space sustains a quietness that resists equilibrium, produced by the continued coexistence of differing structures and sensibilities. Through this condition—where opposing sensations remain simultaneously present—the exhibition is conceived as a site that questions the very premises of visual experience.
