SOM GALLERY

SOM GALLERY is delighted to announce "Never knows," a duo exhibition by Takuma Uematsu and Ittetsu Tsuji on view from May 31 to June 16.This will be their first exhibition at SOM GALLERY, and will mainly be showed their three dimensional works and sound installations.

Takuma Uematsu creates installations that freely combine a variety of materials and sculptural works using animal forms, based on the theme of the relations between the materiality of the body and life.Ittetsu Tsuji is a student of the Department of Design at Tokyo University of the Arts, and he creates works in diverse media that incorporate coincidence and shift, combining tangible as well as intangible objects as materials.

They have a common theme underlying their work: the relationship between multiple things and the coincidence of phenomena that arise from that. This exhibition is intended to question the relations between materials and pieces that can be seen within a space, and the phenomena and their significance that arise incidentally between the viewer and the artworks through space and installation.

In our daily lives, we are forced to be influenced by constantly changing "relationships" mediated by other people and things. By highlighting such everyday overlooked coincidences and relationships, their works will invite viewers to confront and reinterpret reality and stereotypes surrounded by coincidences.

Uematsu was born in Ishikawa in 1977. Since 2001, he has shown his works at domestic and international museums and gallery. He currently resides in Osaka, where he works.
