SOM GALLERY is delighted to announce Yurika Shiroyama's second solo exhibition, titled “Yolk,” at Bakuro Yokoyama in Tokyo.
Shiroyama is an illustrator and artist hailing from Tokyo, Japan. She studied graphic design at Musashino Art University in Tokyo and has also resided in New York. Currently based in Tokyo, she has been working as an illustrator while also pursuing her own artwork as an artist.
In "Yolk," Shiroyama presents new visuals that she created using materials from her everyday life and the spaces she sees around her. Her works convey her thoughts and drawings and offer a unique perspective on ordinary objects and scenes.
For instance, in the artwork "Mayonnaise," what initially appears to be a simple desk and chair by a window becomes a thought-provoking piece when one novices the egg on the chair, the vase that imitates the shape of the chair's legs, and the color composition created using digital tools. In contrast, the "Aquarium," the new series, adds color and movement to Shiroyama's everyday drawings to bring them to life.
Each artwork in the exhibition depicts a different scene, representing Shiroyama's willingness to experiment and challenge herself. This approach reflects her past experiences, as well as her dedication to her craft.
The exhibition features 15 canvas paintings and dozens of drawings that Shiroyama created as part of her daily routine. We invite you to come and experience her unique artistic vision firsthand.
