Aiku Kurotaki's new solo exhibition "HUMAN" at GALLERY X BY PARCO

SOM GALLERY is pleased to announce “Human,” a solo exhibition by Aiku Kurotaki, opening on October 31, 2025 at GALLERY X BY PARCO in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Born in Kanagawa in 2000, Kurotaki graduated from the Department of Textile Design at Tokyo Zokei University in 2022 and is currently based in Tokyo. His practice begins with fundamental opposing concepts—presence and absence, micro and macro, 0 and 1, being and nothingness. Working with fiber, a material that is itself microscopic, Kurotaki patiently weaves and constructs sculptural forms that traverse these dualities. Through these works, he creates multilayered structures that challenge the very premises of human existence and perception in the contemporary age, offering new perspectives and modes of awareness.

Human beings are constantly surrounded by invisible frameworks—those of the body and the brain, of social norms, and of algorithmic control. These unseen systems shape our actions and thoughts, forming the undercurrent of what we take for granted and defining our very existence. While confronting this reality head-on, Kurotaki’s work sketches out pathways that transcend such constraints, guiding viewers toward unseen possibilities.

In this exhibition, Kurotaki presents new works from her signature “Human” series—portraits of figures attempting to free themselves from confinement—alongside a new large-scale installation that marks an ambitious step forward in his practice.
